NOISE LEGISLATION
In Malaysia, there are two types of acts that concerned on the Noise. They are :-
1. Environmental Quality Act 1974 enforced by the Department of Environment (DOE)
2. Factories and Machinery (Noise Exposure) Regulation, 1989
The regulation above enforced by Department of Occupational, Safety and Health (DOSH) and mainly concerned on welfare of the workers expose to the noise.
Among the regulation highlights:
Permissible exposure limits
- No employee shall be exposed to noise level exceeding equivalent continuous sound level of 90 dB(A) or exceeding the limits specified in the First Schedule of exceeding the daily noise dose of unity.
- No employee shall be exposed to noise level exceeding 115 dB(A) at any time.
Method of Compliance - Engineering and Administration control
The occupier shall reduce and maintain employee exposure to noise level below the limits prescribed in the regulation 5 by: -
- Engineering control as far as is reasonably practicable;
- Administrative control; or
- Both of the above.
